Flowers on Front™ Brings Glorious Color to Olde Town!

ISSAQUAH, Wash., March 1, 2024  – The locally grown, lush rainbow of flower baskets will once again adorn the charming streets of Downtown Issaquah with the help of the generous community and its visitors.

Signs of Spring are evident in the sprouts of daffodils and bird calls, but it’s the Downtown Issaquah Association’s (DIA) annual Flowers on Front™ that awakens the vernal season. Lining the light poles down the core historic district from May through the end of September, the flower baskets grown by Squak Mountain Nursery are nostalgia, vibrancy and hope rolled into one stunning display.

“Flowers on Front™ is the most anticipated beautification initiative of the year,” said DIA President Christina Bruning. “Our downtown has benefitted from the generosity of this special community. These donations bring joy and happiness to everyone who passes through or stays to play in our vibrant downtown. I’m amazed at how many people make a special trip just to see the flower baskets.”

Flowers on Front™ has become a model program for surrounding cities that have asked to learn about the rigorous maintenance that keeps the blooms thriving for six months. This year’s program is in recognition of DIA’s most ardent philanthropist and Issaquah resident, Kim Christenson, who passed away last August. Kim was a long-time DIA volunteer and champion, donor and fundraiser for the program.

Donations fund more than 100 bounteous flower baskets and maintenance through the months. Many donate in honor of special women for Mother’s Day (by May 1) or other happy occasions. Some do so just to drape their favorite town in gorgeousness. Of course, the baskets could not be hung without committed volunteers. Last year dedicated volunteers hung and removed 104 baskets, which can weigh up to 100 pounds each!

With a donation at the $50 level or more, DIA will send a card to a designated loved one indicating the basket was a gift in their honor. All donations are tax deductible.
